Lionel Messi, full name Lionel Andrés Messi, also known as Leo Messi, (born June 24, 1 in Rosario, Argentina), is an Argentine footballer who has been named World Footballer of the Year by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) six times (2009–12, 2015 and 2019). He scored 38 goals in 51 games this season and beat Ronaldo in the FIFA World Player of the Year award by a record margin. In the 2009/10 season, Messi scored 34 goals in domestic games as Barcelona repeated as La Liga champions. He was awarded the Golden Boot for Europe’s top scorer and named World Player of the Year in 2010 (the award was renamed the FIFA Ballon d’Or that year).
